As we get to know one another you will find that my approach is curious, compassionate and direct. It is important to find a therapist whom you can trust - it is the quality of our therapeutic relationship which will create the environment for your healing to occur.
Therapy can be serious work, but that doesn’t mean we have to take ourselves too seriously. You can expect that I will use some humor as a means to challenge maladaptive coping or self defeated thinking. Most days we will laugh, some days we may cry. Sometimes I will tell you things that you may not want to hear.
My role is not only to provide emotional support, but also to hold you accountable. There may be moments of discomfort, but through our honest work together you can achieve the relationship with yourself that you deserve.
Your whole self is welcome here regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender expression, sexual orientation, body size or ability.
Amelia Shah LICSW
I completed my undergraduate studies in social work at Seattle University then went on to serve in the United States Peace Corps where I worked in the Philippines as an advocate for survivors of sex trafficking. After returning to the States, I was working with clients who had unresolved trauma that was holding them back and preventing them from stabilizing their life and their relationships. This motivated me to complete a Master of Social Work at the University of Washington in order to become a trauma informed therapist.
I began providing individual therapy in 2017 and have served in a variety of social work settings including:
Psychiatric crisis center
Youth and adult homeless shelters
International NGO for survivors of sex trafficking
Advocacy and case management program for commercially sexually exploited children (CSEC)
Violence prevention therapy program for families involved in the justice system
Community mental health outpatient program for populations historically oppressed and underserved
Outpatient mental health clinic at a public hospital
I am a licensed mental health provider (LICSW) in the state of Washington, my credential number is LW 61100371.
